Removing standing water quickly limits how far it can wick into porous finishes, but extraction alone does not mean the structure is dry.
Extraction comes first
Water should be removed from hard flooring, carpet, pad, and accessible cavities using equipment appropriate for the surface. Saturated pad, collapsed ceiling material, and insulation that holds water may need to be removed so trapped moisture can escape.
Then measure what remains
Moisture readings establish the affected boundary and a dry standard for comparison. Baseboards, subfloor, wall plates, and the ceiling below the loss deserve attention even when their surfaces look normal.
Drying is monitored, not guessed
Air movers and dehumidifiers are placed to create evaporation without spreading debris. Readings over the following days show whether materials are responding or whether a hidden wet layer still needs access.
